Pros and cons of THI Personal Trainer app for iPhone and iPad

THI Personal Trainer app good for

I was blown away with the depth and quality of the resources in this app. Great predefined workouts, high quality video of exercises and the ability to create custom workouts.
Very impressive program. Its very helpful and explains the exercise very well. I especially like the videos. They make the exercise very clear and I find it very useful.
This is the most amazing exersise program ever!!! It is great for anyone of any age to use and has to many different exersises for each of the many catigories. I LOVE IT
Though a lot of the training apps claim to educate their users on how to do exercises, I cant agree that it is possible to learn exercises properly with an image showing the beginning and end of the exercise. Body movements are complex and form is important, and what I like most about this app is that the video shows great examples of how to do the exercises properly. I am a personal trainer, and to accompany training my clients I highly recommend that they use this app on the days that I cant train with them. Great Job!
I just upgraded this app and could not have been more surprised. This is hands down the best fitness app out there. The addition of logging and graphing, the new routines and the ease of building your own make this the one stop shop. Also that crazy 3D human body model, what a cool concept, expect to see that idea ripped off in future apps. All this for 99 cents. WOW
Latest Version: Ive been using the updated version for a couple weeks now and I cant say enough... The tweaks they made to add journaling capabilities and now you can see which are the primary, secondary and stabilizer muscles for each exercise/routine! The routines they added are fantastic - more suited to my Beginner self:) Its practical at the gym and very cool to show off to friends!! I cant wait to see what they come up with next... Id like to see more routines of exercises I can do even when Im not at the gym:) First Version: This App delivered exactly what it promised... I was impressed with the videos and workout routines and how easy it was to build my own. It would be nice to be able to journal though so hopefully that comes in the next version. Id still recommend it for anybody getting started at the gym! To pay $3 to know how to do things right was worth it for me!

Some bad moments

This app fails to deliver with an enhancement to the workout experience. No where in this app can you "Plan" - set goals in therms of reps & weight - they just dont get that we dont want to assess in the middle of a workout. We want to do! This app just doest not get the workflow of a workout session. Another fitness app that relies on your history rather then allowing you to focus on your goals and being able to course correct as you under or or over achieve.
I was disapointed by the amount of exercises because far too many are missing to make this any useful. Flashy, but needs more content.
1. It doesnt give you an audio indicator to move on to your next move . (Because it blacks out, you lose time in trying to navigate through to the next excercise) 2. It doesnt give you the option of doing a workout that is not at the gym. Those that dont seem to be totally at the gym assume you have all the gym equipment you need. 3. It does not give you the option to change out one excercise for another. 4. It does not give you the option of inputting personal data to measure calorie count, etc. Basically, if I want a plan to follow I can pick out what this program gives me out of a magazine.
I think this is a fantastic app thats loaded with excellent information and features. However, I would like to see a few features in an upcoming update, some of which I am surprised are not already included in the app: 1. I would like to be able to go back and add to logs/create logs from previous dates. Sometimes one forgets or is unable to enter all data on the date of workout. So far as I can tell, there is no way to add exercise details (under the "quick log" pencil icon) for any given exercise FOR A PREVIOUS DATE, thereby creating a log for an exercise/workout for a date that has already passed. 2. It would be great if one could see a report that merges all cardio-based reports. That is, in addition to showing graphs of distance/time by a certain exercise (e.g. jogging) over a certain date range, it would be helpful to also see a graph for distance/time that incorporates ALL cardio exercises into one plot. This would allow one to track overall cardio performance, which is probably just as useful, if not more so, than simply breaking down the reports by each exercise and having to navigate through them separately. 3. It would be interesting to have a "target" or "goal" line that one could add to the graph reports (the line would be a horizontal line across the graph). This would allow one to set a target distance or time spent on say, cardio (or a specific cardio exercise). Then whilst viewing the report, one would be able to track over time whether or not one has met this target. Additionally, this target line could be quickly and easily changed so that as one meets and exceeds ones goal performance, one could move the target line (presumably higher) and subsequently track ones progress in relation to this new target over time. 4. Within the cardio exercise "quick log" it would be useful to not only have the ability to input time and distance, but also calories burned, as many people use machines or pedometers that calculate this, albeit by crude means. Again, one could then have a report that plots calories burned for each exercise and also by all exercises (see #2). I use cardio for my examples above, but these suggestions could and should be applied to weight-bearing exercises as well.
I have been using this app for almost a year. It was great. Sadly, it has stopped saving my logged workouts. They appear saved, but when I go back they revert back to a few months ago. If I check the graphs they do show up again. But not very handy when in the middle of a workout.
Keeps crashing. I downloaded this app on the 3G and loved it. Now Im using the 4G and 5.01 iOS and all it does is crash. FIX IT!!!! Its been months now!
